Week 4 Newsletter
Week #4 Newsletter: Week of June 22nd
Hello everyone,
I hope that are all enjoying the warmth of summer and that you could celebrate the summer solstice this weekend!
Thanks to the sun and the long days, the flowers in the patch next to the plant sale nursery are starting to bloom. Looking at their bright colors, the bees and other pollinators will offer you a sense of peace and ground you in the present moment (at least it has this effect on me). I cannot wait to see you in the field harvesting these beauties and creating lovely bouquets to brighten your homes.
If you have walked around the farm, you probably saw that the tomatoes are growing fast under the care of the crew and that many plants bear fruits that will quickly turn their bright yellow, orange and red colors. To further support the plants, the team has fertilized every plant with a mixture of alfalfa, chicken pellets and our Ecolibrium custom blend (you just passed bags of it on your right as you walked into the store to get today’s CSA).
As we have already harvested many of the first crops this season to fill your boxes and the restaurants orders, we needed to “flip” some beds and plant some new plants or seeds to maximize the yield from the fields. It is always so exciting to see these tiny seedlings getting transplanted and knowing that they will become their mature self in only a few weeks (or months for the slower ones).
UPDATE FOR NEXT TWO WEEKENDS:
JULY 4th: We will be CLOSED on Saturday July 4th. You can get your share on Friday of course. If you need to change to Wednesday/Thursday of next week, please let us know ASAP. We will be open on Sunday, July 5th.
July 11th: We are planning to have a memorial at the farm for Claire at 4:30 on Saturday, July 11th. We are procuring a tree and will plant it somewhere to grow productive and large for many years to come. Look for more info in the coming weeks, but put it on your calendar if you are interested in joining.
Have a great week!
